Sr. Technical Program Manager, Amazon Load Balancing

  • Seattle (King)
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Project / Product management

Job description

DESCRIPTION

Amazon is searching for the best of the best to join the AWS Load Balancing team. Our team owns the design, capacity management & scaling, availability and operational excellence of the global networks that power Amazon. We push our networks to their limit; traditional network vendors simply cannot deliver cost effective solutions capable of meeting our requirements for availability, performance or flexibility.

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to manage several big, critical areas of our business. Our team manages nearly every load balancer used across the company. Ensuring that we have enough capacity is critical to meeting the needs of the business, especially for high-scale inorganic demand events like Prime Day, new Prime Day content launches (e.g. Game of Thrones), or Cyber Monday. At the same time, we have the opportunity to tune our utilization to decrease our costs. This role will manage the ordering and landing of capacity as well as driving up the utilization of the existing hardware. At the end of the day, success is managing these capacity levers to save Amazon money while improving the availability and operations for the whole company.

Additionally, we have several large scale software projects that this role will manage. This person will also manage the rollout of these features/services across all of Amazon.

The successful candidate will be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, managing complex projects, working with customers, diving into the technical details to mitigate risk, and just getting things done! While prior knowledge of networking is not required, the role will involve diving deep into details of the load balancer, understanding of networking concepts and terminology, strong web application development experience, and an ability to map out complex software projects. This is a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. AWS in general, and this business in particular, operates at very large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion and discipline around operational excellence is key. A high level of ownership and accountability is a must across our team.
