Job description

DESCRIPTION

Would you like to be one of the leaders of a team that is solving new business challenges through innovative technology?
The Team:
· Amazon Books is a brick and mortar store that offers a curated selection of books and an array of Amazon devices. It is a magical experience that combines the best parts of a neighborhood bookstore with Amazon.com's low prices and the expertise of passionate, knowledgeable staff who tailor their approach to the unique needs of each customer. You can find out more about Amazon Bookstores at https://www.amazon.com/amazonbooks.

This new team's charter is to deliver a scalable, robust and secure device platform for our physical stores. You will be building the applications, tools and services that enable our associates to operate the stores, using a wide variety of devices such as mobile handheld devices, point-of-sale stations, demo devices, etc... You will also define and implement the strategy for Mobile Device Management (MDM) for our devices to enable remote updates, monitoring and troubleshooting. You will be designing and developing the core primitives for that device platform, such as associate authentication.

The Role: As a System Engineer, you will help take on a variety of technical challenges. You will play an active role in implementing configurations, monitoring & maintaining critical security updates on Windows based devices & servers. You will also be working in automating the manual work to scale the solutions to thousands of such devices. We have an innovations group that will bring new experiences to the store, and being there at its inception, you will most definitely help shape the released products. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity and work well independently. You should also be excited by technology, passionate about learning and should view every customer interaction as an opportunity to create a beautiful customer experience. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment that's more startup than big company. We work with distributed systems on a massive scale across multiple devices, multiple stores and thousands of customers. Come join a team that enables builders to build software and delight customers. You will learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.

You have a strong understanding of large-scale computing solutions. You have experience working as a systems or dev ops engineer in an enterprise environment, and have implemented automated solutions across several applications and systems.
You're knowledgeable. You love digging into new technologies and figuring out how to incorporate what they offer into your solutions.
You're passionate about customers and success. You obsess over how to help your customers do their job, not over their computing environment. You understand different people have different needs for being productive, and strive to develop self-service solutions. You have a passion for learning, designing, and building cloud computing systems for a diverse set of customers.
You want to create and improve products, not work around shortcomings of existing ones. You are comfortable taking your suggestions directly to your team, and building your own solutions from scratch.
