DESCRIPTION

Amazon Development Centre South Africa is looking for passionate software developers to join us and help to solve a challenging set of problems in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) space.

This vacancy is for the EC2 Placement team which is responsible for optimally placing instances on the EC2 launch-path. This problem-space is particularly interesting, as it requires us to build systems which solve multi-axis optimization problems in computationally efficient and safe ways. Given EC2's scale, there are wide-ranging and sizeable up-sides our service enhancements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

BS/MS/PhD in computer science or equivalent
Experience with Linux and networking development
Knowledge of system performance methodologies along with hands on empirical monitoring
Strong desire to build, a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
Excellent written communication and verbal agility
Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast paced environment

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of industry experience in a software development environment, including internships
Experience in any of Java, Scala, Ruby, Perl, C/C++ or C#
Expertise in delivering high-quality, innovative applications
Strong customer focus
Strong computer science fundamentals
Strong analytical skills with excellent problem solving abilities
