DESCRIPTION

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing is looking to hire a Quantum Research Scientist with expertise in design and simulation of superconducting quantum circuits. You will join a vibrant team of physicists and hardware designers working at the forefront of quantum computing. In your role, you will design, layout, and/or simulate superconducting quantum circuit devices. Candidates may have experiment and/or theory backgrounds. You may have experience in integrated circuit design, working at a low level close to the hardware and tapping into your knowledge of microwave engineering, electromagnetics modeling, and superconductivity. Alternatively, you may have experience designing qubits, studying analytically their gates and loss and decoherence mechanisms. If you are knowledgeable in all of these topics, even better.

Candidates with a track record of original scientific contributions will be preferred. We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles, resourcefulness and a bias for action, superior problem solving, and excellent communication skills. Working effectively within a team environment is essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Broad and deep knowledge of microwave circuit design
· A deep understanding of quantum mechanics, with expertise in at least one of the following topics: superconducting qubits, cavity/circuit QED, quantum optics, open quantum systems, quantum information, many-body physics
· Proficient in a scientific programming environment (one or more of Julia, Python, Mathematica, MATLAB)
· Experience working closely with scientists and engineers having a wide range of technical skill levels
· Curiosity/capability to research and learn new techniques or technical topics as needed
· Comfortable working in a diverse group and contributing to an inclusive culture

· Three or more of the following:
· Experience with integrated circuit layout tools
· Expertise with microwave design software (COMSOL, Sonnet, Microwave Office, ANSYS, Keysight ADS, Cadence AWR, etc.)
· Strong command of the basic toolset for analyzing superconducting circuits (circuit Lagrangians and Hamiltonians, canonical quantization, etc.)
· Familiarity with black-box quantization and network synthesis
· Experience with simulating open quantum system dynamics
· Familiarity with superconducting circuit fabrication
· Firm understanding of superconductivity (phenomenology and/or microscopic theory)
· Familiar with version control systems (Git)

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· PhD in physics, applied physics, or electrical engineering
· Expertise in Julia (preferred), Python, MATLAB, and/or C++.
· Located in or willing to relocate to work in San Francisco, CA
· Ability to travel to Pasadena, CA on occasion (~quarterly)
· Superior skills in problem solving, organization, and communication
· Thrives in a collaborative environment

Make every future a success.
