DESCRIPTION

The Talent team in Edinburgh is looking for a senior scientist to provide technical and scientific leadership on the next generation of Amazon's HR processes. The ideal candidate will have broad and deep knowledge across machine learning, language processing, fairness and interpretability. You'll have proven leadership and mentoring skills, strong individual technical ability, and ability to innovate and break new ground on ambiguous high-impact problems.

Your role will involve designing, prototyping, implementing and launching systems and analyses that will affect the Amazon employee experience worldwide. To support such a large, diverse and disparate workforce our Talent processes need to be revolutionized. You will spearhead that revolution, applying analysis and scientific rigor to build systems that surprise and delight our employees. You will conduct analyses to determine areas of highest impact, bring the latest scientific thinking from inside and outside Amazon to bear on the problem, develop fundamental new approaches, launch them to employees and disseminate your findings through the HR organization, the rest of Amazon and the wider research community. You will form a pillar between best-of-breed research thinking and real products and systems, with an opportunity to innovate and iterate at pace and scale.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience employing cutting-edge machine learning to real-world problems to deliver results, and leading or providing technical mentorship to a team of researchers. Strong computer science and algorithmic skills, exposure to internet-scale businesses, working in cross-functional teams, and a track record of peer-reviewed publication in a relevant area are desirable.

Desired profile



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

You will have significant experience in machine learning research and engineering. You will hold a Machine Learning PhD, or have undertaken postgraduate study (applicants with a degree in a related discipline who have demonstrated a strong grounding in Machine Learning will also be considered).

Essential skills:
· Ph.D. degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field.
· Experience applying statistical techniques to solve real business problems.
· Proficiency in a programming language (C++, Java, C#, C, Python etc.)
· Proficiency with mathematical programming environments/machine learning ecosystem (R, Matlab, Numpy/SciPy, SAS, MXNet, SageMaker, etc.)
· Programming skills sufficient to extract, transform, and clean large data sets in a Unix/Linux environment, including basic data manipulation and analysis using command-line tools and scripting.
· Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, combined with the ability to present your ideas clearly and compellingly in both verbal and written English form.
