Role Summary/Purpose
The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the plant strategy on Environmental Health and Safety issues for the GE Healthcare Logan Cell Culture facility. The EHS Specialist works under the direction and supervision of the Site EHS Leader. This individual will also function in a team environment to ensure EHS compliance and identify, prevent and resolve potential EHS issues and to mitigate EHS liabilities associated with current operations.
Essential Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
•Lead certain assigned aspects (technical, regulatory/third party interface, reporting, permitting, compliance, financial, administrative, etc.) of projects and permits in compliance with relevant regulatory programs and GE corporate policies.
•Evaluate facility EHS conditions, assess risks and develop appropriate corrective-action plans and budgets to address deficiencies in comparison to regulations and internal policy/protocol.
•Keep management apprised of progress and significant developments on key projects.
•Maintain all required records and documentation.
•Assist EHS team in data analysis to identify trends. Develop corrective and preventative actions.
•Own or actively participate in one or more Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Framework Elements.
•Facilitate site specific Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Training requirements.
•Supply, operate, and maintain personal protective equipment and ensure availability of safety supplies and PPE equipment.
•Verify that safety equipment and PPE are available to employees, and monitor their use of such equipment to ensure proper fit and use.
•Prepare and review specifications and orders for the purchase of safety equipment, ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards.
•Conduct and/or coordinate occupational health and hygiene monitoring in order to prevent instances of disease or illness in job related functions.
Qualifications/Requirements
•Bachelor of Science w/ emphasis in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Health and Safety or related technical discipline
•3-5 years experience in EHS activities supporting a manufacturing site/service
•Regulatory knowledge working under U.S. federal and state and /or equivalent regulations such as CERCLA, RCRA, OSHA, TSCA, DOT, etc. or capable of learning requirements
•Proven project and program management skills • Position is located at our facility in Logan, UT.
Desired Characteristics
•Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) or ability to attain.
•Experience managing projects and/or EHS compliance.
•Able to simultaneously manage multiple projects and other responsibilities, adjust to changing priorities and to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on available information
•Team player with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working within a globally diverse, cross-functional, internal and external team across different time zones.
•Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
