Job Title: Design Technologist II

Worksite: Seattle, WA

Position Responsibilities:

Use the scientific method to explore new tools and experiences that address various user experience challenges with mobile and stationary devices, wearables, desktop workstations, sensors, actuators, and other hardware interfaces. Rapidly build and iterate on unique applied technology prototypes at varying levels of fidelity to prove or disprove a hypothesis, communicate a solution, or build support for an idea. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of various delivery platforms in order to identify opportunities and work creatively within the constraints they impose. Partner with engineering team members to ensure that interactive techniques and technologies will be feasible for end products and services. Establish and maintain fabrication equipment, best practices, and procedures. Evaluate and recommend new fabrication tools for implementation in the lab, and train team members on specialized equipment when necessary. Evaluate and document any new creative and/or engineering standards or patterns. Effectively present work to all levels of leadership. Participate in annual planning and end-to-end design processes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Position Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field and five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation that blends design, programming, and material production and assembly skills in a single job function. Must have five years of experience in the following skill(s): (1) Front-end web development using HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript, JS frameworks, W3C DOM methods and properties, browser debugging, code versioning; (2) Functional expertise in server software (i.e. Node.js), database software and cloud services, and integrating these technologies in architectures that support complex system prototypes or a network of smaller, connected prototypes; and (3) Experience in electronics, microcontrollers, system-on-chip or microcomputers, analog circuits, analog and digital sensors, signal processing, and materials and fabrication to create physical prototypes for experimentation and user research. Domestic and international travel required up to 25%.
