Job description

DESCRIPTION

Want to join a startup responsible for extending Alexa's capabilities outside of the home?

The Alexa Smart Properties team is responsible for driving Alexa adoption in consumer-facing managed living environments. The team recently launched Alexa for Hospitality – a new Alexa experience that brings the simplicity and convenience of voice to hotels, vacation rental properties and other lodging businesses. The product makes it easier to submit and fulfill guest requests for property-specific information, services, and amenities through tools to create, configure, and remotely manage Alexa devices.

We are hiring an experienced Data Engineer (DE) to support the Alexa for Hospitality product. The role will be responsible for designing, building and implementing large-scale solutions that reliably capture, process, transform and persist data about customer (e.g., hotel owner, integrator), device (e.g., Echo) and end user (e.g., hospitality guest) behavior. The role will also be responsible for consuming the solutions to produce reporting and analyses that inform product decisions and direction.

The successful DE candidate for this role will possess expertise with both ETL creation in distributed systems and business intelligence. You understand modern approaches for ingesting, modeling, processing, and persisting data, using a combination of query (e.g. SQL, Hive QL) and scripting (e.g., Python, Ruby) languages to build distributed (e.g. MapReduce, NoSQL databases) data solutions that pull from complex, disparate systems. You also possess strong analytical and communication skills and have a passion and curiosity for using data to drive business decisions. You are capable of attacking complex and ambiguous business problems with curiosity and rigor, driving past distractions and obstacles to identify opportunities and root causes through timely, accurate and actionable analysis.
