DESCRIPTION

Amazon Game Studios is seeking a Combat Designer to join our team in sunny Irvine, CA. This designer will deliver moment-to-moment combat in our upcoming massively multiplayer Lord of the Rings game.

As a Combat Designer you will collaborate with character artists, animators and engineers to create satisfying movement skills and combat abilities and for heroes and villains throughout the game.

What you’ll do:
· Design, prototype, and iterate on core player mechanics, such as movement, camera, controls, and combat
· Craft a responsive and finely tuned player experience, that is fun to play and has the depth to captivate players for years
· Develop abilities for player characters and and AI creatures
· Work with an animation team to describe timings, distances, and animation key poses which result in responsive, fun gameplay
· Work with programmers to create custom functionality to support the player experience
· Script gameplay logic and integrate animations into the game engine
· Write design documents that communicate your vision to the rest of the team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Strong technical scripting skills and ability to learn new technologies
· Deep understanding the MMO landscape
· Experience scripting in modern engines (Lumberyard, Unreal, Unity, etc…)
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· 4+ years of experience in the games industry as a designer
· 1+ shipped AAA game titles or equivalent work e.g. live product development
· Bachelor’s Degree in Art or a related field, or equivalent work experience
