Job description

DESCRIPTION

Amazon is building the next generation software, hardware, and processes that will run the global network of fulfillment centers that move many millions of units of inventory, and ensure that customers get what they want when we promised. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery of products and packages which includes building custom hardware and applying robotics, autonomy, supply chain optimization, machine learning, manipulation, image processing, and real-time data processing using distributed systems.

Rapid technology advances are evident in each of the individual technology areas listed above. The challenge here is how to combine them into “end-to-end” highly automated systems for receiving, through inventory storage, and order fulfillment spanning single and multiple facilities comprising the Amazon supply chain. Amazon WW Automation is seeking a talented innovative and solutions oriented engineer to develop and optimize systems capable of approaching fully automated, receiving, storage, sorting, picking, and packing of items handled singly or combined in containers, where you will integrate end-to-end system solutions working with Robotics, Design Engineering, AFT (software), Technology Deployment, Process Excellence, and Operations teams.
.

If the idea of bringing your engineering skill set to the next level excites you; if the thought of working with some of the smartest people you may ever meet gets your heart pumping; if the notion of using groundbreaking technologies to develop fulfillment and logistics systems in the multi-national leader that is Amazon has your attention, then come join us and be a part of our global initiative of developing and delivering next generation, world-class fulfillment and transportation systems.

Come help us make history.

Responsibilities:
· Develop and optimize systems capable of approaching fully automated, receiving, storage, sorting, picking, and packing of items handled singly or combined in containers.
· Develop and optimize systems capable of approaching fully automated, receiving, storage, sorting, picking, and packing of items handled singly or combined in containers.
· For highest ranking options, develop system-level designs and associated unit level specifications that optimize ene-to-end KPI’s and maximize coverage for range of items. Validate the ability of proposed solutions to flex in response to changes in demand, such as peak periods, shifts in product mix, and item dimensions, weights, and packaging attributes.

· For highest ranking options, develop broad array of algorithms to optimize preferred options, such as routing, scheduling, and resource allocation. Validate the ability of proposed solutions to flex in response to changes in demand, such as peak periods, shifts in product mix, enhanced customer service, and the ability for controls to adapt to unforeseen events that cause stoppages in flow.
· Define and document functional requirements for hardware and software components, system architectures, integrating with operating procedures and interface with human operators. Validate consistency and completeness through simulation and operating results during field trials. Resolve problems during trials required to meet target performance.
