Job description

DESCRIPTION

AWS is hiring Applied Scientists to do research and build models that will allow us to give automated architectural guidance for customers. This is a new team, so you will get a chance to help build tools from the ground-up, such as conversational interfaces and ML-enhanced search. We are building a cross-functional team of Applied Scientists, Software Development Engineers, and Solutions Architects to tackle this problem. We have the potential to fundamentally change and improve how AWS' customer-facing technical teams operate.

AWS is one of Amazon's fastest growing businesses. More than a million active customers, from Airbnb to SAP, use AWS Cloud solutions to deliver flexibility, scalability, and reliability. As an Applied Scientist at Amazon, you are expected be an expert in large-scale machine learning and its applications. You will connect with leaders in your field working on similar problems. We have a huge amount of data at our fingertips, but require scientists to do research, develop algorithms and deploy models that will allow us to have advanced interactions with customers. Our goal is to replace technical conversations in some contexts with automated architectural guidance, so that our technical resources in the field have more time to focus on the most complex and high-value interactions with customers.

The ideal candidate is an expert in the areas of data science, machine learning and statistics. You will be able to balance technical leadership with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology, models and methodologies choices. You will strive for simplicity, and demonstrate significant creativity and high judgment backed by statistical proof. In this role, you will be welcome and encouraged to contribute back to your field of research through academic papers and other research activities. New York City-based candidates are preferred.
