DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a talented Applied Science Manager (ASM) to join the Search Suggestions team. The charter of the team is to help customers craft better searches, and serendipitously discover new experiences, by developing the most utilized search features on Amazon.com: search autocomplete and spelling correction. Our platform uses massive amounts of data and machine intelligence to generate the best possible search suggestions and spelling corrections with low latency.

In this role you will use data to power novel experiences in search autocomplete and evaluate more effective algorithms for spelling correction. You will make improvements to the search autocomplete customer experience by designing and implementing machine learning and deep learning algorithms to improve ranking and candidate generation, conduct A/B tests, analyze experimental results, and launch features. You will drive features from idea to deployment and your work will directly impact millions of customers.

As the ASM, you will interface with product managers, UX designers, and engineers. You play a key role in understanding customer problems and translating them into research problems. We are looking for a science leader who has strong customer obsession, good product instinct, and the ability to see clarity in ambiguity. You are well-versed in the latest research advancement and always interested in learning. You inspire creativity and understand the power of invent and simplify.

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* A Masters Degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
* 6+ years of Applied Science research experience in related industry.
* 3+ years of people management experience
* Experience in building and maintaining mission-critical services.
* Experience managing teams with both software engineers and applied scientists.
* Strong technical skills and has hands-on experience with the latest deep learning framework such as TensorFlow, MXNet, and Keras.
* Proficient in at least one of the common programming languages, e.g., Python and Java.
* Familiar with large scale data processing technology such as Hadoop and Spark.
* The ability to comfortably and confidently present to all levels within the enterprise and to work with both technical and non-technical individuals.
* A proven track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow-through on projects.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
