The core mission of AWS Marketing is to educate customers about cloud computing and our services. Marketing Engineering serves AWS digital marketing needs across multiple channels – websites, blogs, email, social media. We own the systems that power AWS Marketing web properties which include AWS web sites (https://aws.amazon.com, https://www.amazonaws.cn, https://aws.amazon.com/govcloud-us ), blogs (https://aws.amazon.com/blogs) and other channels. Customers visit our web properties to discover and learn about cloud computing and AWS services. Over 6M unique visitors visit our sites every month. Over 500+ content authors maintain 30K+ marketing, instructional pages and they continue to add more to educate our customers about new AWS services. Our customers range from start-ups to large enterprises and all user personas turn to AWS web properties for cloud computing knowledge.

In supporting our core mission, we are focused on delivering interactive, personalized and highly engaging Omni-channel digital experience to our customers. We are significantly enhancing both the platform components and customer facing features.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Co-ops at AWS are provided opportunities to work on a number of strategic initiatives within different marketing engineering functions. Applicants will have an opportunity to be evaluated for any of the project teams below:

Software Development Engineer (Asset Management – 2 positions)

· We are redefining our Content Management System (CMS) to support growing needs of Marketing team. As part of this initiative, we are building a new set of services to manage and publish our binary assets (images, pdfs, audios, videos, etc) in our CMS platform. Such published assets will be used during content creation by authors in authoring and blogging activities. This service(s) will also help aggregate all the marketing assets in a single location, encouraging asset sharing between platforms. The co-op's primary focus area will be to serve as a Software developer for building the client services to interface with new Asset Management Service. During this period co-op will have the opportunity to explore and work on different technologies like programming languages Php, Java, Jsp, Ruby, Javascript frameworks like Jquery persistent stores like DyanmoDB, S3 and messaging systems like SNS and SQS.

Software Development Engineer (Digital Marketing Platform)
· The student in this role will work with a small engineering team to build and extend services that make up the Transactional Email system. The system is used to send out transactional emails to AWS customers based on events or customer usage. The system is responsible for creating emails for a customer in their selected language, performing personalization, and sending it the correct email address. The system needs to be extended to allow Marketers to add or change an existing email template, send sample emails to themselves, then promote that change into production.

Software Development Engineer (Web Ops)
· The AWS Website Operations (WebOps) team runs the global server fleet powering https://aws.amazon.com/, delivering content to millions of users a day. We are building a next generation dynamic content rendering stack giving AWS customers real-time information about the services they use or should be using, upcoming events, and the latest AWS news relevant to them.
Our architecture is based on microservices and uses the latest technology from the AWS Cloud: DynamoDB, Lambda, Serverless, SNS, SQS, CloudFront, and many others. We focus our development on correctness, availability and performance, and have an obsession with giving our customers a world-class website. We deploy updates to our stack daily, with robust unit tests and integration tests to catch regressions, and use state-of-the-art monitoring tools to measure our progress. We are looking for talented engineers who want to gain experience running websites or web services and want to help us build novel technology with AWS services.

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· 2nd or 3rd year co-op students currently working towards a degree in computer science, management information systems or relevant field of study
· Relevant work experience in related areas
· Superior oral and written communication skills with an innate attention to detail
· Excellent time management, resource management and planning skills
