Team Description

The e-Commerce division of Amadeus provides Airlines with a personalized reservation system on the internet, by which users can make travel bookings. This reservation system is the core of the Amadeus e-Retail solution, known as the Amadeus e-Retail Engine which is managed within AIR-DGA (Digital for Airlines)division. This engine has changed significantly in the latest releases and provides even more power and cutting-edge technology than before: merchandizing, rebooking, upgrade, refund, award, loyalty program, payment with miles, ancillary services, continuous enrichment of the methods of payment, cross-sell with non-air products such as hotels or cars, etc.

Within AIR the Digital ExperienceEvolution (DXE) team is in charge of doing the development of the front end for the booking flows, creating responsive and accessible websites for the airlines.

A specific focus has been put on accessibility following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) recommendations. Our User Experience team has produced some guidelines and training for developers covering both Mobiles and desktops applications and we now have reached a good level of expertise. We are following closely what providers in the industry are doing and we participate to many events (European commission, CSUN in San Diego,…)

Main Responsibilities

All e-Retail teams in Amadeus are now delivering accessible websites, and therefore we need a fast way to test the quality of our development according to the WCAG-AA standard. However, despite the fact that every big e-commerce players are improving the usability for disabled consumers, we all face the same issue: how do we create automated testing for accessibility in the same way we do for regular code? (i.e: unit testing)

The goal of this internship isto help the teamto find talented developers who show an interest in helping disabled users navigate the web, not just in Amadeus websites, but any site, by improving the open source tooling or creating new ways of tackling the problem of testing accessibility in a creative way.

The trainee will participate in followin activities:

· Learn about accessible web development from the departments experts
· Analyze the state of the art in automated accessibility auditing tools
· Gather best practices and the best products in the market in which we could participate
· Increase the coverage of the accessibility testing currently provided by tools like axe or google audit tab (only around 20%)
· Provide possible solutions to the problem of screen reader testing

The goal of this evaluation is wide: to provide a good experience in one of the biggest travel industry players, to collaborate with a community of developers, and to help improve the quality of websites for disabled people by increasing automation.
