Business environment

We do real research at Amadeus, in particular at the Innovation and Research Division. Our team of researchers not only have access to large amount of rich data and have the possibility to work solving real-world industrial problems, but also developing and testing new promising ideas that could change the travel industry. This considers solutions for airlines, hotels, car rentals, travel agents (online and offline), airports, and many other actors in the industry.

Our team focus on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in particular, including but not limited to supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning models with their applications for the travel industry. We are active in the research community through publishing and partnerships with academic labs and experts in our research interest areas. We encourage our researchers to publish on top journals/conferences actually this is an important part of our objectives. Thus, we have a passionate culture with special interest on high quality research, combining the best of academia and industrial worlds: time to research and publish together with access to rich data and real-world applications.

Purpose

The Data Scientist is part analyst, part artist: comfortable working as software engineer and quantitative researcher. The Data Scientist most likely explores and examines data from multiple disparate sources. The Data Scientist sifts through all incoming data with the goal of discovering a previously hidden insight, which in turn can provide a competitive advantage or address a pressing business problem. The Data Scientist does not simply collect and report on data, but also looks at it from many angles, determines what it means, then recommends ways to apply the data. The Data Scientist is inquisitive: exploring, asking questions, doing what if analyses, questioning existing assumptions and processes. Armed with data and analytical results, the Data Scientist communicates informed conclusions and recommendations across an organization’s leadership structure.

Key accountabilities

· Develop and deliver research projects to different stakeholders in an efficient way
· Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques (e.g. Deep Learning)
· Data mining using state-of-the-art methods
· Master data visualization for effective result communication
· Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
· Make data available to users - prototypes, using external APIs, integration with other services
· Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
· Analyze data using advanced statistical methods and present results in a clear manner
· Work closely with colleagues to identify and answer important customer questions regarding data
· Report and present research results to a wide audience (e.g., business people, researchers, internally and externally; international conferences)
· Publish research results on high quality journals
· Contribute to academic partnership projects
· Contribute proactively to the research activities of the group
· Contribute to patent applications

Education

PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations research, Maths, Statistics, Engineering or equivalent.
