Duration: 12 months (with possibility for extension)

Working students are students who are enrolled at a University or some other institution of higher education, and who are employed in a reasonably long, fixed-term position parallel to their studies. This position must not be confused with an internship or with the possibility of writing a final thesis.

This employment usually takes place directly on the company's premises. A working student's main focus remains on their studies, which is why, during term-time, working students are not allowed to work more than 20 hours per week. Working students therefore usually work near their place of study, so as to conveniently combine studying and employment.

You will be working in the business division “Airbus Optical Instruments”. As Europe's largest manufacturer of Optical Instruments for space applications, our portfolio covers all types of optical instruments, e.g. imaging spectrometers, meteorological sounders, LIDARs, high resolution cameras, and optical communication terminals. In our technology development team, we prepare the next generation of Earth Observation Instruments in Space. For these activities, we are looking for a dynamic and dedicated student and offer a position for a working student.

Your key tasks will include:

- The evaluation of technologies for future space optical instruments

- The implementation of mathematical models (e.g. in matlab or python), e.g. setup of thermomechanical analyses and optical performance evaluation for optical systems

- The planning, setup and optimization of experiments and tests in our laboratories

- The data analysis and evaluation of test results as well as their interpretation

-The literature research and support of documentation

The following professional skills and assements are relevant for this position:

- Enrolled full time student (d/f/m) at University within the field of Physics, Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar field or study at

- You have experience in data analysis and good knowledge of software such as Matlab or Python

- You have knowledge in optical systems, including experience on component level, e.g. in detectors, optics, or thermo-mechanics, is advantageous.

- You are enthusiastic about new space technologies and instruments and have the capability to work independently

- You are a team player with team spirit and excellent communication skills

- You have very good knowledge in English
