Description of the job

A vacancy for a Telecom System Engineer – Support to Satellite Projects (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Toulouse. You will join the Telecom Systems department (TSPTI2) and will be a part of the Telecom System support to the bids and projects group. You will mainly be in charge of providing support to the telecom satellite projects for which some telecom system analysis is required.

Tasks & accountabilities

You will be in charge of the following activities depending on the satellite projects:

·  System capacity computation,
·  Link availability computation,
·  Analysis of interfaces with the ground segment
·  Frequency plan optimisation
·  Analysis of system flexibility in terms of capacity distribution over the coverage
·  Analysis of system synchronisation

The scope of the mission will involve:

·  Defining the methodology and assumptions for the analysis and discussing it with the project team and the customer
·  Specifying the tools needed for the analysis and supervising its development/validation (if development of a new/adapted tool is needed)
·  Performing the analysis and issuing the relevant reports/presentations
·  Presenting and justifying the results to the project team and to the customer
·  Assessing the compliance with the requirements and proposing a way forward for improvements, when needed
·  Contributing to project reviews with the customer, as needed.

The type of satellite projects for which this Telecom System support is requested can be for any type of telecom satellites but the large majority are broadcast or broadband multi-beam satellites.
To perform this mission, you will have the support of the telecom experts within the Telecom System support to the bids and projects group and of the department's simulation & optimisation team. You will also have to interface with the project team members and in particular with the payload, antenna and satellite system engineers. Your experience will also be used to provide system support to bids when necessary.
This role will involve some travel for business (3 to 4 times a year in Europe) and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  Engineering degree (or equivalent),
·  3 years of experience in the engineering and sizing of radio communications systems or services,
·  Initial experience in satellite telecommunications will be a plus,
·  Knowledge of:

o Telecommunications network engineering
o Link budgets
o System simulation & associated tools

·  Ideally, knowledge of satellite communications standards (DVB-S2, DVB-RCS2, etc.) and Digital radio communications,
·  Autonomy,
·  Flexibility and ability to work in multinational teams,
·  Good reporting ability (both technical and on work progress),
·  Ability to interface with customers,
·  Advanced level of English and intermediate level of French.
