Stage - Satellite Avionics Functional Chain Modeling

Airbus Defence & Space Toulouse (ex Astrium SL)

Airbus Group is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2015, the Group - comprising Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters - generated revenues of € 64.5 billion and employed a workforce of around 136,600.

Our people work with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place. Taking pride in our work, we draw on each other's expertise and experience to achieve excellence. Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Description of the job

Airbus Defence and Space (Toulouse) is looking for an intern for a 5 / 6-month internship. This internship will start in February / March 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Modeling a system with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) technics will improve quality of the system requirements by offering support for a better understanding between different discipline stakeholders. This High level modeling could then be refined for software specification, FDIR specification (Failure Detection, Isolation & Recovery) and AOCS specification (Attitude & Orbit Control System) and validation and integration requirements and facilitate autocoding.

A first experimentation was done for a specific mission (observation satellite) and showed, when modelling is associated to a proper methodology, some good results in terms of requirements quality. The present study will start from this experimentation results to propose a model based on a new promising solution suitable and enough intuitive to avoid long and fastidious training for being used in a multidisciplinary context.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

The first step will be to acquire the required knowledge for designing a functional chain (power, thermal, RF link, AOCS, solar array deployment and payload) with the related FDIR.

The second step will be to acquire the knowledge on methodology.

Then third step will be to experiment the tool and the language for a first overview on its capabilities satisfying the functional chain modelling requirements, the methodology and the ergonomic requirements (customisation and libraries will probably be needed).

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  You are in the last year of a Master's degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering with good knowledge of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE).
·  Good knowledge of Modeling Languages: UML, SysML or Altarica.
·  Knowledge in one of the following Modeling Tools: Eclipse, Topcased or Papyrus, Sirius / Capella, Matlab Simulink.
·  Knowledge in model transformation is a plus (ATL, Acceleo…).
·  Knowledge in Metamodeling (Meta-model, EMF…) would be a plus.
·  Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel).
