Job description

Airbus Operations SAS

Airbus is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2018 it generated revenues of € 64 billion and employed a workforce of around 134,000. Airbus offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners. Airbus is also a European leader providing tanker, combat, transport and mission aircraft, as well as one of the world's leading space companies. In helicopters, Airbus provides the most efficient civil and military rotorcraft solutions worldwide.

Our people work with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place. Taking pride in our work, we draw on each other's expertise and experience to achieve excellence. Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Description of the job

The gust load computation requires refined methods which are hardly assessed in early phase of an aircraft development.

Rapid Aeroelastic methods are often used for steady loads calculation in a pre-design context. The more advanced methods are based on a pre-computed steady aerodynamic database for a reference shape and take into account the aerodynamic non-linearities with a robust accuracy.

Gust load calculations in pre-design are still limited to very simple linear evaluations which are not at the same level of accuracy

Tasks & accountabilities

A PhD is proposed to investigate the same advanced methodology for gust load computation by introducing:
i- dynamic structural response
ii- and aerodynamic unsteadiness corrections.
The objective is to have a coherent and homogenous solution for gust and steady loads in pre-design phases.
The Scientific challenge resides in the New methodology development for gust load computation

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.

Required skills

Very solid knowledge in aeronautical engineering
More precisely in loads, aero elastics, a/c performance or applied mathematics.
Good knowledge of:
- validation process/steps with CFD/CSM
- and Legacy method
- as well as Non-linear gust load calculation
- Prototyping
- Python
The following soft skills are primordial to ensure a good experience and that the mission be a success:
- Rigor
- Curiosity / Creativity
- Self driven
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Autonomy/proactivity
- Analysis and synthesis skills
- Beginner level of French and advanced level of English

Make every future a success.
