About MAIT
Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration and Testing (MAIT) is the backbone of the creation and delivery of our Space and Military products throughout the World. We manufacture our own parts onsite with revolutionary technology and expertise gathered over years of creating industry leading products. We assemble our parts together with other parts that have been sourced from industry leading providers of the best technical hardware available. We integrate our systems onto our space and military craft and make sure that everything is ready for launch. We test everything (sometimes to breaking point) to make sure that once it leaves the Earth atmosphere it is the best possible product we can create, it will withstand any possible variable and temperature as well as be reliable for as long as the satellite is in operation… sometimes longer than 15 years!

MAIT is the production division for Space Systems across 6 locations including UK, France, Germany and Spain.

Tasks & accountabilities

Role description

Due to a huge period of growth with the Space industry, Airbus Defence & Space is looking to grow our Propulsion AIT team by hiring an Orbital Welder to work on our spacecraft propulsion systems.

As an Orbital Welder you will be tasked with:

·  Performing orbital welding on propulsion system pipes.
·  Mechanical assembly, integration, modification and structural repair of fluid systems (fuel, pneumatic, hydraulic).
·  Perform basic tests (leakage, bonding).
·  Ensuring continuous improvement.
·  Performing first level quality inspection.

You will be also be tasked with working with raw materials, tools, standard parts and components, documentation (technical instruction, work order and job cards - in order to deliver assembly ready for testing with associated production documentation.

Required skills

Required skills

·  Established Orbital Welder with proven experience of working on pipework/mechanical assembly
·  Understanding of technical diagrams/drawings
·  Highly motivated and driven
·  Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure.
·  Experience within the Space industry would be highly desirable (but not essential)
·  NDT X-Ray certification is also a bonus, alternatively the drive to obtain this accreditation with our support!
