Description of the job :
A vacancy for an Airline scientist (m/f) position has arisen within Airbus Commercial Aircraft in Getafe. You will join the Airline Sciences team within the Digital Transformation Office (DTO).

The DTO (Digital Transformation Office) leads the digital transformation of Airbus group, leading key digital initiatives, defining the group data strategy, and supporting culture change towards more digital and agile ways of working.

Using scientific methods for operational knowledge, Airline sciences provide novel insights on the airline business environment, connecting our product to market reality and creating new business opportunities for Airbus.

Task & accountabilities :
As an Airline scientist (m/f), your main tasks and responsibilities will be to:

o Ensure ongoing development and support for the Airline Simulation tool by:
- providing technical subject matter expertise in the development, maintenance, functionality and use of Airline simulation
- responding to user requirements / business needs by releasing regular updates
- coordinating and maintaining data source compatibility with Airbus Marketing, Design Office and external vendors

o Drive continuous innovation and forward thinking using latest technology, expertise and research by:
- setting strategic direction for innovation through the phases of initiation, development, and implementation
- playing a key role in driving the research, implementation and execution of multi-domain optimization
- keeping up with industry direction and developments in the field of optimization and development
- providing strategic input in support of Airbus sales campaigns and future aircraft design
- maintaining relationships with local universities and research institutes to initiate and coordinate research initiatives
- coordinating new innovation initiatives with internal business units
- driving the development of analytical and optimizing tools that will assist in finding cost effective methods of analysing aircraft capability on existing and future network that will generate the most profit both for Airbus and its customers.

o Subject Matter Expert for Engineering Field of Expertise by:
- providing guidance and technical assistance in the field of airline Flight Operations, Flight Planning, Route and Aircraft Evaluation

o People Management by:
- motivating, developing and mentoring staff or university work experience students
- providing appropriate and timely performance feedback
- demonstrating emotional intelligence and maturity

This role will involve some travel for business in Europe and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills :
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

o Professional Engineering - degree qualified. PhD preferred.
o Airline experience is a must, particularly in the field of Airline Flight Operations, Airline Fleet Planning and Aircraft Evaluation.
o Ability to influence outcomes and lead a team of professional engineers and university students in engineering research projects.
o Ability to work closely and effectively with people at all levels in the company including Design Office, Maintenance Services, Flight Operations, Strategy & Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, Airworthiness Authorities, Air Navigation Service Providers, Suppliers, external customers and local University research associates.
o Sound written and verbal communication skills, including delivery of presentations on behalf of company to external stakeholders (Airlines & regulatory authorities and other government agencies) with strong commercial acumen & analytical skills
o Negotiation level of English.
