Duration: 6 month

In the frame of a master thesis, alternatives for spherical bearings are to be analyzed and evaluated for the High Lift components of the A320 family. The aim is to get an evaluation matrix with clear recommendations of which bearing type can be used when and where. In addition, design principles for new bearing types have to be developed. These design principles serve to provide the designer with a guideline regarding the design as well as the necessary calculations for the pre-sizing.

Target objects are the High Lift components of the A320 family.

During the master thesis following questions must be answered:

·  Which bearing types are used where and why are they used there?
·  Are there any known problems and if so what kind of problems?
·  What are the reasons for the problems?
·  Which alternatives are conceivable?
·  Which alternatives are available on the market?

Following tasks should be covered:

·  Close exchange and collaboration with bearing specialists and manufacturers
·  Analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the various bearing types (weight, costs, maintenance, service life, etc. of both, bearing and adjacent structures)
·  Development of 'Design Principles' for alternative bearing types
·  Development of a 'Decision Support Document' - when is which bearing type advisable and advantageous to use?
·  Development of clear recommendations for all considered bearing locations

You offer:

·  Enrolled student (m/f/d) within Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar field of study
·  Knowledge of MS Office and Catia V5
·  Fluent in English, intermediate German language skills

You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
