Job Description

Description

Emitter localization is a key topic for future missions. For localizing an emitter, usually 1D passive RF sensors are used that deliver bearing (azimuth) measurements. Therefore, in order to estimate the position of an emitter several measurements are needed from one or more platforms.

The goal of this work is to reduce the number of necessary measurements and platforms by using a 2D passive RF sensor that delivers bearing (azimuth)  and elevation measurements.

The work will include

·  Adaptation of an existing sensor model in C++
·  Development of a localization algorithm that uses 2D (bearing  and elevation) measurements to estimate the 3D position of an emitter
·  Implementation of said algorithm in C++ and, if needed, in Matlab
·  Integration of algorithm to the MUM-T Development Environment

We are looking for a student with the following skills:

·  Enrolled student (d/f/m) within Information Technology , Engineering or similar field of study
·  Good skills in geometry
·  Familiar with probability theory & statistics
·  Familiar with sensor fusion and in particular Kalman filtering and its non-linear variants
·  Matlab Experience
·  C++ Know-How
·  Good English & German language skills
·  Team player

Context

The described work will be performed as part of the Cross-Platform Mission Management (XPMS) project which studies and prepares algorithms that can be subsequently used in the Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) demonstrator and in other projects with relevant interests.
