Job Description

Are you looking for an internship? Would you like to discover the work of an Engineer?  Then apply now! We look forward to you joining us as an intern (d/m/f) at the Science & Earth Observation Future Programmes and Proposals department ( 35 hours/week, flexi-time).

Location: Friedrichshafen

Start: October

Duration: 6 months

Feasibility studies and proposals of Science and Earth Observation missions and systems in all phases up to Phase B1, as well as related technology activities.

The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission will observe gravitational waves by measuring picometer pathlength changes between inertial test masses separated by 2.5 million km. Orbital dynamics will cause the shape of the constellation to change over the mission duration, calling for active tracking of the laser links in the constellation while maintaining the pm accuracy. In our laboratory a hardware demonstration of a payload architecture named 'in-field pointing' is being validated. Other topics include the optical surface readout of test masses in highly precise inertial sensors and low-noise laser systems for metrology.

As an intern you will learn about   Laser interferometry, phasemeter setups, vacuum systems, optical cavities, inertial sensors

Your Tasks:

·  Support to laboratory tasks for verifying the pointing architecture and its performance. Tasks are versatile and can be tailored to the skills and interests of the applicant.
·  Support the ongoing improvement campaign of gravitational research related setups (laser pointing, test masses)
·  The performance tests include interferometric measurements of the optical path length jitter and angular jitter performance.

You offer:

·  Enrolled student within Physics, optics, optoelectronics, electrical engineering or similar field of study
·  Experience within LabView; Matlab
·  Experience with laser optics, interferometry, FPGA, and electronics is desirable
·  English: fluent

You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
