Description of the job

Airbus Safran Launchers (Les Mureaux) is looking for a trainee for a 6-month internship.

You will joint the Airbus Safran Launchers' CEM team (16 engineers) as part of activities to improve our numerical methods for treating electromagnetic environments applied to the development of our space launchers. The purpose of your internship will be to develop a new digital calculation process to characterise the effects of electrical and electromagnetic lightning on a launcher on its launch pad.
You will in particular focus on two digital processes currently used, that will have to be compared in tangible cases: one based on the method of the differences in the temporal domain (FDTD) and the other based on the method of finished surface components (BEM) in the frequency domain with a parametric approach.

This internship will be available from 1st February 2017 (subject to a certain degree of flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your responsibilities will include:

·  Assessing the advantages and drawbacks of the two processes on models of Ariane launchers (in terms of flexibility, precision, lattice structure representativeness, complexity, etc.)
·  Choosing the most appropriate digital processes and applying them to evaluations (impact of potential changes in defining the launcher, calculation of sensitivity to electrical, mechanical and geometric variables) on the Ariane 6 launcher subject to lightning attacks
·  Recommending innovative configurations from the point of view of lightning protection resources, which could form part of the cases to be assessed
·  Specifying the simulation drawings to define the logic of calculations regarding objectives
·  Preparing the CAD models so that they may be correctly interlinked
·  Processing and analysing the results for a conclusion.

Required skills

You are in the final year of engineering school, completing a Master's degree or in the 5th year of university, specialising in Engineering/Electronics, Microwave frequency, and more specifically Electromagnetism or Electro-Magnetic Compatibility.

Ideally, you have initial work experience.

You have skills in

·  Electromagnetism, or EMC
·  Numerical modelling

Experience in Unix/Linux environments and Python programming language will be appreciated.

Candidates must be comfortable working as part of a team and have excellent interpersonal skills.
