Description of the job

An internship position in the development of test procedures for satellite simulators has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Toulouse. You will join the Functional Avionics Engineering & Lead TLS department.
This internship will take place within the JUICE project team, led by Airbus Defence & Space for the development of an exploration probe of the Jupiter system on behalf of the European Space Agency. Airbus Defence & Space ensures the procurement and supply of test means of various instruments and scientific experiences that are embedded within the probe. This test mean, called Spacecraft Interface Simulator (SIS), allows an anticipated validation of instruments in the representative context of its integration on the Spacecraft.
Eleven copies of this test mean have been delivered to Principal Investigators (PI), who are responsible for the development of the scientific instruments of the JUICE mission.
In this context, your tasks will include developing and validating executable automated procedures on the test mean and deliverables to PIs in order to assist them in their use of the test mean.
This internship will start beginning of March 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

You will ensure the design, development and validation of automated procedures, of which the objective is mainly to:

·  Implement the configuration of the test mean,

·  Test the instrument in relation to central flight software mechanisms that are common to all instruments.

To achieve these tasks, you will:

·  Acquire knowledge on the operation of the JUICE central flight software (or Central SoftWare (CSW)), in terms of the processing that it ensures in order to manage the on-board scientific instruments. This will include:

o The time synchronisation of the instruments,
o The command/control (TM/TC) management of instruments,
o The implementation of the 1553 bus interface protocols or Spacewire communication with instruments,
o The collection and storage of the scientific data of the mission emitted by the instruments.
This task will be carried out with the support of the Avionics Functional project team, provided by the Functional Validation, Operations, Central Software and Central Data Management Sub-system architects.
In this context, you will be in charge of:

·  Developing the executable automated procedures of SIS allowing to finely simulate the CSW processing and functions listed above, in addition to the mechanisms provided natively by SIS,
·  Validating these procedures on a SIS Spare mean available within the JUICE project,
·  Supporting the JUICE Functional Validation architect for the preparation of deliverables of developed procedures to PIs.
