Description of the job

Are you passionate about aeronautics and interested to work with avionics engineers, test pilots and human factors specialists on new functions for the cockpit? Are you looking for an internship of at least 6 months at the end of your aeronautical engineering studies? Then continue reading and discover the internship on offer in the Cockpit Operations department:
The topic of the internship will be "Connected EFB use cases and associated Human-Machine-Interfaces (HMI) for current cockpits":
Data exchanges between Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) applications and avionics systems (hereafter called connected EFB) are expected to reduce pilots' workload in certain flight phases and to contribute to the reduction of the turnaround time of aircraft.
In the context of research on current cockpits, the internship will aim at identifying connected EFB use cases and then at defining, prototyping and validating human machine interfaces to support data exchanges between FMS and EFB applications, based on a user-centred design process.
Internship length: 6 months, from February 2017.

Tasks & accountabilities

The internship will include the following activities:

·  Reviewing the state of the art of connected EFB and studies in progress in R&T
·  Identifying Connected EFB use cases from flight preparation outside the aircraft until flight closure for different airline profiles
·  Identifying expected airline benefits
·  Selecting use cases to be prototyped
·  Capturing system constraints through reviews with system designers
·  Defining alternatives of connected EFB HMI and shortlisting the most promising ones for further refinement with pilots, human factors specialists and systemdesigners
·  Specifying, integrating on the research platform and validating the main HMI prototype candidates (self-development of the HMI prototype or support ofsimulation development specialists might be considered based on the required complexity)
·  Leading evaluations of these prototypes with flight test and training pilots
·  Analysing the outcomes of these evaluations and quantify operational gain provided by a connected EFB
·  Summarising the conclusions of the internship in a report

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following profile:

·  Enrolled in in an Engineering school or equivalent bac+5
·  Ideally specialised in aeronautical engineering, experience in flight operations, mission management
·  Advanced level in English required. Notions of French could be a plus.
·  Pilot licence would be a plus
