Internship/CAD Models Sensitivity Analysis: aerodynamic profile optimisation application (m/f)

Airbus Group Innovations Suresnes

Airbus is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2016, it generated revenues of € 67 billion and employed a workforce of around 134,000. Airbus offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners from 100 to more than 600 seats. Airbus is also a European leader providing tanker, combat, transport and mission aircraft, as well as Europe's number one space enterprise and the world's second largest space business. In helicopters, Airbus provides the most efficient civil and military rotorcraft solutions worldwide.

Our people work with passion and determination to make the world a more connected, safer and smarter place. Taking pride in our work, we draw on each other's expertise and experience to achieve excellence. Our diversity and teamwork culture propel us to accomplish the extraordinary - on the ground, in the sky and in space.

Description of the job

Airbus Group Innovations (Suresnes) is looking for an intern for a 6-month internship.

Within the scope of their research activities, Airbus Group Innovations takes part in the development of aeronautical profile optimisation chains (aircraft wings, blade profile, complete aircraft configuration). These chains implement CAD software (CATIA, Padge), meshers, CFD solvers and optimisation environments.
This internship will focus on the geometrical aspect of optimisation (CAD + meshing) An initial prototype, based on CATIA, has been put in place in order to evaluate geometrical shape sensitivities relative to their design parameter (i.e. the sensitivity of the surface relative to the geometrical parameters handled in CATIA: hole diameter, shoulder height, etc.). This prototype is based on the principle of finite differences; they consider thus the CAD software (CATIA) as a black box and proceed by successive (infinitesimal) modifications of each parameter in order to evaluate the gradients.

This internship will start on 1st February 2017 (subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

Your tasks will include:

·  Initially, identifying the limits of this first prototype (gradient accuracy, difficulties associated with the complexity of the geometrical shapes handled, etc.),
·  Secondly, proposing and implementing solutions to correct its limits and to make the approach as generic and rugged as possible.

According to the results obtained, this work can be extended to the meshing part (gradient generation and evaluation).
The codes will be developed in Windows and Linus environments.

Required skills

You are in the final year of engineering school, completing a Master's degree or in the 5th year of university, and are specialising in general engineering or simulation / modelling, and more specifically in CAD.

Ideally, you have initial work experience in this field.

You have knowledge in:

·  Algorithmic geometry (computer graphics),
·  Applied mathematics,
·  C/C++
·  Python,
·  VBA CATIA,

You possibly have notions of CAA (CATIA environment).

You are a good team player and have excellent interpersonal skills.

English: intermediate level,
French: Fluent.
