Description of the job

An internship in the 3D display of a satellite in orbit (m/f) has opened up at Airbus Defence and Space in Toulouse.
Are you enthusiastic about space and interested in the visual display of the behaviour of satellites operating in orbit? Use your computing skills for operational analysis and investigation purposes by joining the orbit monitoring team!
Within the "Project Data Management & In-Orbit Support France" department, and in particular the In-Service Maintenance cell for earth observation satellites, the telemetry of the satellite condition - position and orientation in orbit is analysed.
In this context, you will be responsible for the improvement and development of the display tool functions, in order to contribute towards the efficiency of the behaviour analyses of earth observation and scientific satellites.
This internship will start in March 2017 (date subject to some flexibility).

Tasks & accountabilities

In order to improve the display of the behaviour of satellites in orbit, you will perform the following activities:

·  Familiarisation with the tool,
·  Gathering of potential improvements from the service users,
·  Analysis of the need for supplementary functions,
·  Implementation (coding & validation) of the supplementary functions and improvements, in compliance with the coding rules,
·  Updating of the documentation for the tool consistent with the developments,
·  Operational deployment and configuration control of the tool,
·  Presentation to users.

The improvements and supplementary functions shall cover among others:

·  Implementation of conversions and interfaces,
·  Improved performance and visual reproduction if necessary,
·  Display of navigation array satellites (GPS, Galileo, etc.).

You will work within the orbit monitoring team, an expert of which will supervise the 6-month internship.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  in the 2nd year of a Master's degree or in 5th year of an engineering school, or university, specialising in IT Engineering,
·  Ideally initial experience in the domain,
·  Good knowledge of Java and html languages,
·  Knowledge of Scilab language and VTS would be an asset,
·  Good mastery of Word, Excel and PowerPoint,
·  Interest in the space field
·  Sense of synthesis and methodical approach
·  Team player,
·  Ability to work without supervision,
·  Advanced level of English.
