Description of the job

A vacancy for an EGNOS V3 NLES and RIMS Performance Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Ottobrunn.

The successful applicant will join “Navigation Products”.

Desired profile

Tasks & accountabilities

What can you expect?

You will contribute to the ongoing deployment phase of EGNOS V3, the European satellite based augmentation system for GPS and Galileo by characterising the RIMS (Monitoring Station) and NLES (Uplink Station) performance and monitoring the proper implementation of these stations by the suppliers. In that role you have to pro-actively interface with the RIMS and NLES suppliers as well as the system performance engineers.

You will join the Airbus Navigation Department. With more than 60 engineers and almost 20 years of experience it is one of the leading expert groups in Europe for the development and implementation of the European satellite navigation systems EGNOS and Galileo.

In your daily activities you can expect:

·  Monitoring and challenging of the proper implementation of the RIMS and NLES specifications by the suppliers
·  Characterizing the RIMS and NLES performances as achieved by the implemented RIMS and NLES (incl. characterization of RIMS and NLES environment) used as input for EGNOS V3 system performance analysis
·  Maintaining and updating RIMS and NLES specifications as needed to support EGNOS V3 system performance analysis (this includes survey of specifications provided by the customer (e.g. scintillation specifications, RIMS and NLES RFI environment specifications, User Rx standards (e.g. new L5 DFMC SBAS MOPS)
·  Presentation of results in front of the customer and the suppliers

Required skills

What are we looking for?

As a general qualification we expect:

You are educated to a master's degree in an Engineering discipline such as Navigation, Telecommunication, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Geodesy, Geoinformatics, or equivalent

The network of the RIMS monitoring stations and the NLES uplink stations form an essential part of the EGNOS ground system driving the overall EGNOS system performances. With regard to the offered position in the context of the current phase C/D (i.e. implementation and deployment) for successful working skills from three different fields are necessary:

·  You should have a deep understanding of GNSS receiver and RF technologies
·  You should be able to anticipate the overall EGNOS system performance needs on these elements and translate them into RIMS and NLES performance requirements
·  You should be able to challenge the RIMS and NLES suppliers

In more detail the following qualifications and experiences are considered essential for successful working:

·  You have a deep understanding of GNSS Rx and TX related technology used in GNSS ground systems and in GNSS uplink systems, e.g. RF-equipment (GNSS signal generator, GNSS receiver, RF-switch, amplifier, splitter, usage of external frequency standards (i.e. atomic clocks)) and antennas
·  You have a deep understanding of signal processing inside GNSS Rx (e.g. signal acquisition and tracking)
·  You do understand GNSS signal error contributors (e.g. hardware-induced, multipath, radio-frequency interference, ionospheric scintillation, jamming, spoofing) and mitigation techniques
·  You are able to and experience in derivation of, implementation and maintenance of requirements (e.g. usage of SW tools like DOORS)
·  You have knowledge of relevant GNSS / Rx standards (e.g. GNSS ICDs, IGS data formats, e.g. RINEX)
·  You have knowledge on hardware assembly, integration and test (AIT)
·  You are experienced in MATLAB, C and/or C++ and usage in complex analysis environment (e.g. analysis of Rx data for larger networks (50-80) and large amounts of data (days-months))
·  You have good communication and negotiation skills

Make every future a success.
