Description of the job

A vacancy for Cost Engineer Software - Cost Estimator (f/m) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space, in Toulouse (31). As the successful candidate you will join the TFOC, costing, department.

In this position, very close to operations, you will bring your technical skills in software engineering to understand, analyse and challenge the technical solutions. This will allow you to estimate the costs related to the development of the new software, embedded in Airbus Defence & Space products: satellites, UAV, military aircraft.

You will bring real added value by giving advice to simplify the specifications and reduce the costs. Together with the operational managers you will :

- Build the software cost models, compute all the cost evaluation and maintain up to date references

- Create, build software cost information and provide cost driver expertise on specific technology and Products as input to support decision making

- Support the company in the area of estimating the cost of software projects and associated activities and products and to provide value added benefit to the overall business development process through the collation and analysis of cost data, and the development of efficient cost estimating models

To perform your activities you will have a very strong link with software engineering and the business.
In this role, you will have an overview of Airbus Defence & Space products and systems: observation satellites, science satellites, drones, military a/c and work in collaboration with the whole team of Airbus Group costing team. Also, this role will bring new opportunities to your career and widen your area of competences.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Strong co-operation with the engineering to have a good understanding and knowledge of the company’s products and systems
• Maintain expertise level and develop/Capitalize knowledge about your field of expertize via cost analysis, referential improvement, benchmark studies, training, audits.
• Support harmonization and rationalization of cost engineering referential and models
• Collect relevant information for specific cost engineering deliverable (e.g. Estimation, cost drivers…) in cooperation with the operational stakeholders.
• Prepare, challenge, and synthetize required assumptions for the production of cost engineering deliverable.
• Decide on cost engineering Methodology/Tools (analytic, parametric…) and cost references to use
• Perform and provide cost reports, assess the cost estimate quality or risks scenario, identify cost drivers and recommend for cost optimization in regard of available assumptions, references, models and experience supporting value analysis or design to cost exercises
• Support Cost Architect buy-in for his cost engineering deliverable
• Analyze the variance between the cost engineering view and other sources of estimation and support reconciliation /negotiation
• Support internal customers.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

• Academic degree in Software Engineering or equivalent
• Strong background in Software
• Experience in software development in satellite domain: cost engineering, engineering, development, procurement
• Sound knowledge in software development process including the qualification, languages and DAL
• Expertise in the development process of an electronic system or subsystem in Aerospace industry
• Knowledge in Integrated Logistic Support related to software (bugs fix, revision, etc)
• Understanding of business topics (finance, economics) and mathematic methods (to build parametric cost models)
• Proactive, strategic mindset and problem solving approach
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Negotiation level of English, German and/or French would be a strong asset
