Masterthesis: Phonon rectification in the department Thermal Engineering:
Description of the department:
Thermal engineering, analysis and testing services and thermal hardware development
Topic:
Investigation and development of a thermal diode for low temperature application by means of 3D-nanostructuring techniques.
you will learn about:
Mesoscopic physics, nano-fabrication, thermodynamics, heat transfer in solids, cryogenic measurements techniques, calorimetry
Your Tasks:
· Literature research on theory and realizations of rectification of thermal fluxes with a focus on directional phonon scattering in solids and its physical background
· Definition and optimization of the nano-fabrication process
· Production of prototypes
· Assembly of a measurement setup
· Evaluation of the performance of the developed prototypes
· Development of techniques to improve the fabrication process and device performance
You offer:
· Enrolled student (m/f) within physic or similar field of study
· Familiarity with a programming language (Matlab, Python, …)
· Practical experience with nano-structuring techniques is a plus
· Practical experience in a low temperature laboratory is a plus
· English, German is a plus
You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
