Internship – AfricArena – Cape Town
From Mid/End-Feb to Mid/End-Aug 2020 (6 months)
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
AfricArena is the first African Tech Ecosystem Accelerator and a platform for the continent’s best startups and innovators to showcase their world-class talent in front of an audience of both local and international investors and corporates.
The last AfricArena conference took place in November 2019. The event brought together key figures in the international and African tech innovation ecosystem with the aim of promoting African Tech excellence. AfricArena 2019 saw 700+ attendees watching over 40+ speakers, 100+ startups and witnessing more than 3 million US dollars’ worth of deals being made. The two-day conference paired more than 100 of Africa’s best startups with over 150 investors from across the globe, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to really showcase Africa’s innovation talent.
This year, AfricArena is travelling to the top tech capitals of Africa in order to bring the best startups of the continent to pitch for the fourth edition of the Conference in Cape Town in November. We are looking for someone to assist the Ecosystem Manager as well as the rest of the team with all aspects of the event planning of:
o AfricArena Tour: 14 different destinations in Africa and Europe
o Final AfricArena Summit: Cape Town, November 2020
Your main tasks will involve:
o Sourcing of startups, local events planning
o Marketing & Communication: content creation, newsletter, website/app/portal updates, social media posts
o Event logistics: event planning, front office, staff management
o Other tasks as requirement come along in relation to the African tech ecosystem as well as the French Tech ecosystem.
Ideal candidate profile
o Ideally end of study internship, 6 months – Business School or University
o High interest in Tech, start-ups, the African Tech scene and new tech trends
o Autonomous & organized – ability to manage several parallel projects
o Soft skills – this is not an internship that requires to master one specific hard skill but rather requires adaptation and polyvalence
o Creative & (ideally) sense of design
o Previous successful experience in Event Organization & Communication
o Previous working experience abroad, ideally within a start-up/tech environment
o Fluent in English & French
o Tech-savvy (pack office, slack etc.)
