Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Abbott is a global health care company, focused on making patients’ lives better for over 130 years. With sales in excess of $30 billion, Abbott is present in 160+ countries worldwide and employs 107,000+ employees. Abbott is made up of 4 business areas: Medical Devices, Nutrition, Diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals.

Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is part of the Medical Devices business. ADC designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge blood glucose monitoring technology for use in both home and hospital settings, including our revolutionary Freestyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System. In our Centre of Excellence in Witney, we design, develop and manufacture test strips and biosensors which are used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes.

The Technical Operations Group at ADC has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Statistician to join our team at the forefront of diabetes care innovation at our manufacturing site in Witney Oxfordshire.  The successful candidate will work as part of the Statistics team providing statistical support in the manufacture, continuous improvement and monitoring of our products .  Typical work across a variety of our on-market leading products include:

·  Using statistical process control (SPC), working with technologists in monitoring product performance to ensure control and drive continuous improvements.
·  Monitoring data collected throughout product shelf-life and supporting work to optimise product accuracy.
·  Supporting technical investigations performed within the manufacturing operations unit.
·  Transferring new products, machines, materials and processes into operations, which involves the design and analysis of experiments in order to optimise settings and acceptance sampling.
·  Assist with the introduction of analytical test methods (analysis of variance, setting acceptance criteria & capability analysis) and support efforts in reducing measurement variability.

As a minimum, you should hold a BSc in Mathematics, Statistics or a numerical science subject.  Industry based experience would be beneficial but not essential, as would SAS programming skills.  The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who takes initiative and is able to work within a team and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.  You will need to have good oral and written communication skills to be able to prepare reports, interpret results, and provide effective summaries.  You must be organised and flexible in your approach to work, with good attention to detail in order to ensure that data and analyses are accurate and meet the requirements of the project.  There will be opportunities to collaborate with R&D, quality, operations and engineering functions.

As you’d expect from an innovative global health care company, we offer excellent salaries and a competitive range of benefits including a defined-contribution pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme. Here at Witney, we also support our employees to live life to the fullest – whether it’s joining our couch to 5k team, tending the allotments, learning to be a bee keeper, or dropping in for a yoga session, there is plenty going for you to engage with as and when you wish!
