JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Network Administrator provides technical Level II problem isolation and resolution for a Global Network (LAN / WAN / Directory Services / Border Networks / Remote Access / Wireless / Physical infrastructure) and may refer to documented processes as needed. This includes isolating cable issues, performing diagnostics, and configuring network devices. Uses the latest software and hardware tools to analyze, support and repair bridges, switches, routers, LAN/WAN protocols, IP services and server configurations (Windows, iSeries, Unix, other). Interaction with internal and external global customers requiring good Customer Service skills. Responsible for problem resolution working rotating shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts) with some requirements for weekend and holiday coverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing daily operational support by monitoring, troubleshooting and maintaining the global data and security network (LAN, WAN, Directory Services, Border Networks, Remote Access, Wireless & Physical Infrastructure) including multiplexers, switches, hubs, routers and all associated hardware and software to maintain the network functionality. Responsible for initial response on Incidence calls dealing with service requests and/or problem reports.
  • Isolates physical issues (copper & fiber), uses remote configuration, monitoring and diagnostic tools to configure, identify and trouble-shoot network devices.
  • Escalates problems to higher level technical support professionals and inform management of persistent issues.
  • Responsible for creating, updating and completing documentation associated with qualification, incident handling, problem resolution and asset tracking. Clearly and concisely provides relevant information with the audience in mind.
  • Responsible for device replacement in as it relates to problem resolution. Participates in scheduled upgrades and maintenance as required.
  • Provide a stable, dependable network across multiple platforms by utilizing network management applications to identify network faults, ensure the provision of data or other telecommunications access to clients, and the movement of information from one location to another.
  • The duties of this position can be broad and may include such tasks as monitoring usage of shared resources including firewalls, general use of network/protocol analyzers, handling malfunctioning equipment, repatching of network connections, and database maintenance for network support.
  • Secures relevant information: Reviews customer needs, gathers information from relevant sources to understand problems; and identifies irregularities before major problems occur documenting call data into a tracking system.
  • Builds open and honest relationships, follows through on commitments; exhibits patience, empathy and receptiveness to requests; is pleasant and courteous when interacting with clients, peers and management.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing for infrastructure and client business applications.
  • Participate in various vendor/customer meetings on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of new technologies equipment and services in the data communications industry.
  • Reinforce systems security in accordance with industry best practices and enterprise policy
  • Participates in all call rotation as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree, or technical institute degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 2 to 4 years of IT work experience in computer systems or support with demonstrated working knowledge of basic hardware and software products and problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
  • 2 years of industry experience in a LAN/WAN network design or support, Required
  • Experience in supporting a multi-technology network (LAN/WAN routers, switches, servers, PC's)
  • Experience with CISCO related hardware and IOS
  • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN troubleshooting related to routing protocols, switch configurations, wireless technology, DNS, DHCP
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and the OSI model
  • Ability to generate and maintain network related documentation
  • Ability to work in a highly matrix and geographically diverse business model
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced changing environment
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Multiple language skills desired, English is mandatory
  • CISCO CCNA, Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with zScaler is a plus
  • Experience with government regulated environment is strongly preferred
  • The technician has a working knowledge of all technologies related to the global data network infrastructure and their interdependencies.
  • Travel: 5% Domestic and 5% International. Percentage will increase on a yearly basis.
