JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life through the design and provision of device and management solutions for the treatment of Structural Heart disease.  We aim to lead the markets we serve by requiring the solutions we offer customers provide an improved benefit/risk profile as compared to existing standards of care; a performance threshold that by definition, guides and ensures the productive output of our engineering, business development, and clinical research efforts result in outcomes that advance the standard of care.

The Market Development Specialist will promote and support Abbott Structural Heart through developing strategies and plans to assist Account Managers meet or exceed sales goals for an assigned territory through therapy awareness and market development activities. This role includes therapy educations and case coverage within a defined territory. The MDS will support the Account Managers identify opportunities and challenges within existing and potential accounts, while assisting in the achievement of business goals and increased sales revenue. This incumbent will exhibit clinical competency relevant to MitraClip therapy and mitral regurgitation disease state, will build strong relationships and collaborate with cardiologists, heart-failure specialists, cardiac surgeons, and interventional cardiologists.  When appropriate, this role will provide support to facilitate patient treatment at a Mitraclip implant center.  This is a field-based position.

WHAT YOU’LL DO  

· 
Partner with Account Manager to develop establish strategic pathways and account objectives to expand the MR patient pool and deliver procedural and sales growth.

· 
Ensure a firm grasp of account activity, current and historical performance to establish joint strategy to educate physicians about MR and Mitraclip therapy

· 
Effectively direct physician behavior in a clinical setting

· 
Initiate and effectively manage therapy awareness education activities or events targeting referring clinicians.    

· 
Meet with existing and potential clients to identify clinical needs, goals, and constraints related to patient care and economic models to provide creative and feasible solutions. Build relationships in various hospital departments (Echo Lab, valve coordinator, surgery, cardiology Directors, Hospital Administrator, etc.)

Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING  

Required  

· 
2-6 years of field clinical experience in medical device industry

· 
Strong organizational, communication, and process skills to support business planning, forecasting, sales process, and inventory management.

· 
Therapy awareness - Ability to create therapy awareness within and outside implanting centers to raise awareness and create / develop therapy education. Proactively connect referral community to implant centers to assist with therapy development. Facilitate echo education seminars and train / develop valve coordinators. Nurture new start-ups, including base therapy awareness within and outside the cardiology group.

Preferred  

· 
Cardiovascular and structural heart clinical acumen. 

· 
Proven sales experience in medical device industry preferred .
