JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our Neuromodulation business is an area of expertise for Abbott. This business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. Our Solutions include Proclaim (TM) XR SCS System, the #1 Spinal cord stimulator on the market, Proclaim (TM) DRG Neurostimulator, the only FDA approved DRG therapy and a market leader in radiofrequency ablation therapy, Abbott RFA.  These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum. Our deep brain stimulation technology for progressive diseases help people manage their Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor symptoms, steering away from side effects.

Our location in Plano, TX currently has an opportunity for a Manager, Mechanical Engineering. In this role, you will be developing and managing a technical team of mechanical engineers focused on the design and development of implantable neurostimulation systems.  The manager in this role is also responsible for creating the team’s vision, setting direction, establishing best practices and expectations, project planning, and executing project deliverables to align with divisional goals and development timelines. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

· 
Direct a multi-disciplinary team of highly technical engineers from concept through commercial launch and on-market support.

· 
Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provide ongoing performance feedback.

· 
Act as technical manager providing strategic and tactical solutions and collaborate with technical leads and the cross-functional R&D group

· 
Develop technical leaders through mentorship, training, and leadership opportunities to enable team-member leadership of complex technical projects.

· 
Coaching, mentorship, and constructive feedback to the team to provide career development and growth.

· 
Maintaining a safe, positive, and engaged work environment.  Inspiring an energized, empowered and accountable work force.

· 
Self-contribution of technical and engineering deliverables in a working manager role.

· 
Managing the development of goals, objectives and strategies for mechanical engineering team. 

· 
Communicating to senior management as required including technical presentations, status updates, and program reviews as required. 

· 
Coordinates and manages resources to meet detailed project timelines and milestones. 

· 
Remains current on developments in field(s) of expertise, regulatory requirements, as well as industry trends. 

· 
Promoting and supporting the development intellectual property by the mechanical engineering team as appropriate. 

· 
Develop a team culture that consistently improves the quality and execution of program deliverables

· 
Set goals which align to department plans and manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring.

· 
Appropriately manage resources within program and budget cycles providing key solutions across a portfolio of multiple on-going projects

· 
Plan and maintain project schedules and budgets

· 
Participate in the analysis of new technologies as they may apply to proposed future product development.  Contribute new technologies or process that may be of future or current value.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

· 
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

· 
10+ years of relevant product development or R&D experience

· 
3+ years of demonstrated experience managing engineering teams

· 
Demonstrated knowledge of sound design principles and practices

· 
Demonstrated knowledge of risk management techniques

· 
Demonstrated knowledge of failure analysis and root cause investigation

· 
Demonstrated knowledge of statistical techniques to inform design decisions

Preferred

· 
Advanced degree preferred

· 
Strong history of cross-functional collaboration with other engineering disciplines (Electrical, Manufacturing)

· 
Experience designing for relevant manufacturing processes (e.g. extrusion, machining, reflow, injection molding, laser/resistance welding)

· 
Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model

· 
Experience leading projects under medical device design controls and project management
