PURPOSE OF ROLE

To undertake the detailed design of Hardware solutions for Eurotherm products - from concept through to volume Production.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Engineer will be responsible for specifying and developing innovative and reliable analogue and digital designs, to satisfy a Functional Specification.

The Engineer will take full responsibility for their designs but may have to design more complex solutions in conjunction with other Engineers.

Liaison with other team members (Software & Mechanical Engineers) and departments (e.g. Marketing, Purchasing, Test and Manufacturing) is an essential part of this role.

Produce documentation in line with Eurotherm procedures.

To keep abreast of technical advances and share their knowledge.

Offer support to customers and other departments when required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Skills –

Essential

Knowledge –

· Good understanding of analogue and digital fundamentals
· Familiarity with microcontroller and microprocessor designs
· Designing for EMC

Experience –

· One to two years Post Graduate experience producing hardware designs for volume manufacture, on time, to cost and to the required quality.
· Documenting their designs to enable others to understand and test them
· Designing and testing for EMC
· Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Access and Excel

Desirable

Knowledge –

· Designing robust hardware for industrial applications
· Designing embedded solutions
· Designing with programmable logic and using hardware description languages
· Understanding of the Glass / Life Sciences / Water / Plastics / Heat Treatment Industries
· ISO9000 procedures
· Working to formal quality assurance procedures
· PowerPC, Ethernet, Profibus or other communications protocols

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree/Masters in Electronics or appropriate experience.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Eurotherm operate a matrix reporting structure where Design Engineers report to the Team Leader or Manager of the project on which they are working but also report to the R & D Hardware Manager for logistical and discipline rated issues.
